Privacy Policy
Last updated
This policy explains how Kunal Sahu, an individual based in India (“we”, “us”) handles personal data for the MD Reader website and app. We act as the data controller (“Data Fiduciary” under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023).
1. The app
MD Reader runs entirely on your PC. It opens the files you choose, renders them locally and does not send your files, file names, usage data or telemetry to us or anyone else. It needs no account. If a future version adds an optional feature that uses the network (for example, an update check), we'll describe it here before it ships and you'll be able to turn it off.
2. The website
- No cookies, no analytics, no ads. The Site doesn't set cookies or load third-party trackers, fonts or scripts. The only third party it talks to is Buttondown, and only when you submit the waitlist form.
- Server logs. Our hosting provider automatically processes technical data such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested, to deliver and protect the Site. These logs are kept for a short period by the host.
3. Waitlist emails (Buttondown)
- What we collect: only the email address you type into the waitlist form. The form also tags you as “waitlist” so we know where you signed up.
- Why: to email you about MD Reader's launch, the launch price and major product updates. Legal basis: your consent.
- Who processes it: our email provider, Buttondown, stores the address and sends the emails on our behalf, under the Buttondown privacy policy. When you submit the form, your browser sends the address directly to Buttondown.
- Confirmation: Buttondown uses double opt-in, so you'll get a confirmation email first. You're only added to the list once you click the link in it.
- Unsubscribe anytime using the link at the bottom of every email.
- Deletion: email founder@happie.in and we'll delete your address from the list. We keep it only until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, and we never sell or rent it.
4. Purchases
When you buy through Gumroad or the Microsoft Store, they process your payment under their own privacy policies (Gumroad, Microsoft). We may receive your name, email, country and order details so we can provide license keys, support and refunds, and we keep these as long as tax and accounting law requires.
5. Your rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete your personal data, withdraw consent, or raise a grievance by emailing founder@happie.in. We'll reply within 30 days. If you're in the EU, UK or another region with similar laws (such as the GDPR), you also have the right to object, restrict processing, data portability and to complain to your local data-protection authority.
6. International transfers
Our service providers may process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, they use recognised safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
7. Security
The Site is served over HTTPS with a strict Content-Security-Policy. We limit who can access personal data to what is needed to run the product.
8. Children
The Site and App are intended for adults and aren't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.
9. Changes and contact
We'll update the “Last updated” date when this policy changes. Questions or grievances: founder@happie.in.
